One chair, one lamp, one view
The brief was disarmingly simple: a corner of a bright living room where its owner could read for hours. The room had the light and the chair — it lacked everything that makes a corner feel intentional. We designed a low walnut side table, a hand-turned oak lamp with a linen shade, and a short run of floating shelves to hold the books that mattered most.
Because the corner catches low evening sun, we finished the walnut in a light natural oil rather than a dark stain, so the grain glows instead of disappearing at dusk.
Designed around the light
We visited at three times of day before drawing anything. Morning light needed nothing; the 5pm sun needed taming. The lamp head tilts to throw warm light across the page without competing with the window, and the table height matches the chair arm to the centimetre so tea, glasses and book all land without reaching.
- Hand-turned oak lamp base with dimmable warm LED and linen shade
- Solid walnut side table with a dovetailed drawer for reading glasses
- Floating shelves on concealed steel, rated for a full shelf of hardbacks
